birmingham clubs midweek... worth taking the wednesday off work or is it dead??

we're thinking of taking a midweek night in brum cos weekends are mad with the kids and the in laws schedule... but every time i ask ppl about midweek clubs in birmingham they go silent like its a secret or its just rubbish. is it actually worth booking a hotel and going on a wednesday or are we gonna walk in and find 3 couples and a single bloke staring into his pint?? we don't mind quieter but theres quiet and theres dead. genuine answers pls...
