christmas couples party with the same circle... cosy tradition or stale

so our core group of 5 couples has been doing a "christmas couples thing" every dec for 4 yrs now and im genuinely torn this year... part of me loves it cos its like a chosen family thing, mulled wine secret santa play if u want, and theres a real warmth to seeing the same folks every yr. but another part of me is wondering if we've gotten too comfy and its losing the spark. do other circles have a christmas tradition that's lasted years? does it stay fresh or does it eventually need a refresh... considering inviting one new couple this yr to shake it up but worried it'll ruin the magic
