Gen Z couples are showing up in our scene, what are you all noticing about the generational shift
observation thread, not a complaint thread, please dont turn this into a "kids these days" pile on. me 41, dh 44, in the LS about 7 yrs. for the first 5 yrs of that the youngest ppl at any event we went to were comfortably in their late 20s and most of those were 30+. in the last 18 months or so we are starting to see actual gen z couples — i mean ppl in their early 20s, like 23 and 24, who are openly out as in the lifestyle and showing up at clubs, parties, online communities. things im noticing. theyre way more verbal about consent at the start of any interaction, not in a stilted way just in a "im going to literally say what i want and ask you what you want" way that older couples sometimes find startling. they're sober more often, not all of them but a real noticeable subset, mocktail orders or just one drink all night. theyre very online — like the lifestyle is part of a broader queer/poly/kink ecosystem they're fluent in, not the discrete category it was for us. theyre also more upfront about money/setup stuff that older couples treat as taboo, ie who paid for the hotel, who drove, who hosts. things im wondering. is what im seeing real or just my sample. are clubs adjusting? are older couples adjusting? are gen z couples being welcomed in the existing spaces or are they creating their own parallel ones? we've heard about app-organised pop up parties that are mostly under 30 and dont overlap w the established club scene at all. is that a temporary noob phase or is the scene actually splitting along gen lines. curious what other longer-in ppl are seeing. especially curious if gen z ppl are reading this — what do you actually want from the established scene if anything.
