liverpool LS scene... is there anything beyond the obvious one everyone keeps mentioning??

everytime i see liverpool come up its always the same one club name being thrown around and im wondering if thats genuinely the only decent venue or if theres smaller hidden gems we're missing... we live just outside the city and the main place is fine but it feels a bit samey now and the same crowd every weekend. are there any house party scenes or smaller meet venues that are couple friendly?? we dont mind travelling out to wirral or southport if its worth it. asking cos we feel like we've exhausted the obvious options
