NZ LS scene... auckland and wellington realistically how small is the active pool

we're moving to NZ next year for work, prob auckland, and we're trying to figure out if we'll have any LS life when we get there or if its gonna be a 2 year break... every kiwi couple we've asked is super positive but also super vague about numbers. like is the active scene in auckland 30 couples?? 300?? 3000?? and how does wellington compare?? we don't need a london sized scene we just need enough that we're not running out of options in month 3. brutally honest answers welcome we'd rather know now...
