one of the couples wanted to leave early from our cottage weekend awkward as hell

on a long weekend in a bach near auckland, three couples, day two and one of the couples announces theyre going to head off a day early "because of work stuff". but it was super clear that work wasnt the reason. the wife had been a bit off all day, partner had clocked it but we didnt know if it was something between them or something between her and one of us or just the dynamic generally. they left after lunch, we still had a whole afternoon and night to go with the remaining couple. the rest of the weekend was actually lovely but we couldnt stop talking about what happened, why they left, whether to message them, whether one of us did something. its been a week and theyve responded to messages politely but vaguely. do you push for an honest convo or just accept the silence. and how do you not let this kind of thing taint future trips
