ran into our old play couple at a club last weekend... i wanted the floor to swallow me

ok so first night back at a club post divorce and obviously the universe arranges for me to walk straight into a couple my ex and i used to play with regularly for like 2 years. they didn't know we'd split. cue the worst small talk of my life trying to explain without crying into my g&t... they were lovely about it actually but i spent the rest of the night avoiding that area and ended up leaving early. how do you handle this without it ruining the whole night... bc this is going to keep happening, the scene is small
