sextortion attempt by a "couple" who turned out to be one bloke

so we've been chatting with a "couple" on one of the bigger apps for about three weeks. nice messages, did a video call where we saw both of them briefly, exchanged a few intimate pics under signal disappearing. then yesterday i get a message on a different account saying he has our pics and wants 800 quid in btc or its going to my employer and my wifes family. turns out the "couple" was one guy and the "wife" on the video was probably ai or a recording. were in scotland and we've gone to police but they basically said good luck. has anyone actually beaten one of these by not paying...
