spare pillowcases — am i overprepping or essential

so the wife packed 4 spare pillowcases for a 2 night hotel meet last week and i thought she'd lost it... but then by the second morning we'd gone through 3 of them between makeup, lube spills and just general sweat, and i was eating my words. so genuine question for the more experienced — are spare pillowcases standard in the bag or are we two people who are messier than most. and if you do bring them how many per night. white cotton or do you bring patterned bc stains are less obvious...
