switched-partners game at a private, anyone done the "draw cards" version?

so we went to a private in dublin a few weeks back, hosts had this "switched partners" game where 4 couples drew cards at random to determine pairings for the evening... wasnt forced obvs, anyone could opt out and re-draw was allowed, but the random element made it way more interesting than just "pick who u wanna play with". me and the wife both got matched w ppl we wouldnt have chosen ourselves and honestly it was the best night we've had. anyone else got a structured version of switched-partners they do? feels like the randomness is what made it click for us...
