texting the other couple next day, how soon is too needy

we had a lovely night with another couple on friday, exchanged numbers obviously. saturday morning i woke up wanting to send a "thanks for last night, had a brilliant time" message. my wife thinks we should wait til sunday or even monday so we don't look thirsty. is there an unwritten rule? does texting first thing the next morning come across as clingy or just polite? we're still pretty new to all this and i don't want to scare them off. they're a lovely pair from bristol way
