"the politicians wife" trope... outed mp and the long suffering spouse every couple years theres a british tabloid story about an mp caught at a swingers club and the wife stands next to him at a press conference looking shattered. and then the dramas follow... bodies, the politician, that recent itv thing... and its always framed as the spouse being a victim. but what if she knew? what if it was their thing? mainstream british tv literally cannot imagine a political wife being a willing LS participant, it has to be portrayed as betrayal. anyone else find this framing exhausting and patronising specifically to the women in the scene...
